Naming

The naming of the school was consulted through parents of the nearby communities and the priests at the school's parish (st.patrick). San Lorenzo Ruiz is the patron saint of youth.

Connection to All Saints Catholic Elementary School

San Lorenzo Ruiz is opened to reduce the load of students in All Saints Catholic Elementary School. As the development near Berczy Village and Wismer Common speed up, the enrollment to All Saints have been increasing to 753 students (as of 2006), which is much more than an average catholic elementary school has in the local area. Students who live east of McCowan Road, who currently enroll in All Saints, are expected to attend San Lorenzo Ruiz in the 2007 / 2008 school year. Half of the staff members at All Saints are also expected to "move" to San Lorenzo Ruiz in the 2007 / 2008 school year.

High school

San Lorenzo Ruiz is expected to be the feeder school of Brother André Catholic High School.
